Margaret's Garden Journal for September 2009

from backtofront

A glimpse of the front garden from the back garden

I came home from the respite home on the 3rd. The weather had been really warm while I was confined indoors but the garden still looked green and full of colour. It rained once slightly soon after I came back and then we enjoyed three weeks with no rain at all, during which time I could do very little gardening. Despite six weeks with no weeding, watering or deadheading the front garden still remained a source of considerable pleasure.

a ripe fig cut in half John put plastic bags on a few of the larger figs and before he left on the 9th we enjoyed four of them. Since then I have had several more.I am going to have to remove a few pounds of green ones though once the frosts set in. It appears there is very little one can do with unripe figs because they have so much latex. Removing the latex is a time cosuming business that leaves one with something completely tasteless.
