This January has been far colder than ones we have experienced over the past two decades. Not only have we had frosts down to 10 degreesC but also hail, fog and strong winds. The snow drops didn't show white until the third week.
At the end of the month my elder son,who is a volunteer guide for Garden Organic at Ryton, gave me 4 out of the six potato tuber varieties I wanted. He had bought them at their potato day, Maxine, Anya, Lady Christyl and Picasso. I have still to get Charlotte and Arran Pilot. I hope to get them from the nursery I visit most often, Hawgrips of Enderby.
