Margaret's Garden Journal for September 2008

The dahlias soldier on looking good, rain or shine. After the dullest August on record, everyone was sure that September was going to be fine but by the 9th the rainfall had already exceeded the average for the whole month. However as last year, it cleared up miraculously for the Writer's Club Garden Party. Despite the weather the pumpkins have sone better than last year.

To do this month
1. Deadhead
2. Water

3. check tomato ties
4. plant out more leeks

5.Cut back summer rasperries

6. Sort strawberry runners
Later Comments
1. Yes
2. Despite torrential rain watering urgently needed in short dry spell
3. Tomatoes have gone mad.
4. Because I had no room earlier I put clusters of seedlings in deep pots so have had plenty to plant out.
5. I didn't get rid of them as I intended to last year.
They filled in nicely between flushes of JoanJ
6. Not really ready yet
