By the middle of September the crocosmia is over and there is a distinct autumnal tint to the trees despite the mild weather. However the dahlias and Michaelmas daisies still provide vibrant colour.
It has been a poor year in my garden for vegetables although the leeks seem to be doing better than usual. I had a small but constant supply of courgettes and runner beans and had a couple of meals off the Romanesco calabrese. The eating apples I was complaining of last month, though, have bulked up. I guess perhaps they were just late varieties. The cooking apples have done well.
