March 7th
I was away in Ireland for the first week of the month so I have much catching up to do.
March 26th
Bang go my resolutions to record as I go along. The potatoes went in from 20th onwards. Arran Pilot and Pink Fir Apple and a third. (Can't remember whether I had Charlotte from Mark or bought Desiree for myself. Even after rubbing the dust of the surface couldn't decide whether the skin was pink or brown.) I placed sackfulls of 18month year old leaves under them.
Well rotted stable manure went under the mange tout peas (planted 24th) and Green Shaft, (planted 27th),both directly into the ground after having been soaked in parafin.
The carrots I planted on the 14th. I suspect I didn't water them enough during the the dry spell we had for most of March. This last week has been making up for it though.
The rest of my time in the garden has been spent in the bottom right hand corner, cutting down holly and ash saplings, then putting them through the shredder. I finished pruning the roses in the front garden and those prunings have also gone through the shredder. I use the shreddings on top of plastic sacks to keep down ground elder and stinging nettles between shrubs.
