Southern Goa - Carnival in Margao February 2008

Because the Portuguese colonised Goa early in the 16th century about 40% of Goans are Catholic. I arrived in Goa four days before Lent started, Carnival time. A group of us from Doma Sa Maria went into Margao, a small town , centre of the local district, on the Sunday before Lent to watch a carnival procession circumambulate the local park. I hadn't been in such closely packed celebratory crowds since V-day in London in 1946. The procession took three hours to pass. I didn't take my camera with me but a pair of my fellow residents in Doma Sa Maria sent me their photos after they had returned home. I did write to thank them and hope they received my letter. I would like to write again to tell them I am using some of their photos on this site but cannot for the life of me think where I placed their letter after answering it.
