a group of snowdrops
From New Year until the first snowdrop (Galanthus) is usually the dreariest time in my garden. However it is rare for the first snowdrops not to appear before the end of January. Three cultivars, one double variety, a single variety with slim leaves and a more strapping slightly taller variety usually ensure that I have them in flower for much of January and all of February here in my garden in the East Midlands UK
The Germander Speedwell is a wild flower that looks very pretty invading the edges of my lawn and scrambling across paths in late spring here in the East Midlands UK, so I tend to let it be whenever possible.
