Bud's Garden in Saanichton on Vancouver Island

 

It is now summer 2008 and over five years since I have had an upgrade on Bud's garden. Since that time I am sad to report that Bud's wife, Mary, has passed away. Bud, who has been confined to a wheelchair for many years now, continues to live in the bungalow. This year he brought someone in to do some major work on his garden

In the middle of February 2003 Bud posted this from Vancouver Island, Canada in response to Mandi's post from Milton Keynes UK.

"All the daffs are close to blooming, also the Cherry Blossoms. I don't have any crocus. The commercial growers are shouting that they need Daff. pickers sooner than usual. The Daffs are picked green so to speak and bloom when placed in a warm room."

The Daffodils for sale have been picked, these in the picture are left over. When the leaves have dried the bulbs are picked up and replanted in another area. --- Bud
One of the plants in his garden Bud is worried about is his azalea. It did magnificently last year but was damaged by this winter's unusually heavy snow

Bud says that his gardening has been inspired by the Local Butchart Gardens. Having surfed to the site I can see why he is so impressed. I really must visit Vancouver Island some time.

June 2003 - Bud writes "Thought I would send you a picture of Mary's latest garden creation, which is located at the road end of our driveway. It used to contain Conifers, but was changed to heather which did not do too well. So she put in almost a hundred pansy plants and they seem to be doing well - spreading nicely.
