The Quickthorn or Hawthorn or May grows, with some gaps, on three sides of my rear garden (or yard as Americans would call it). I have given up cutting it on my side although the neighbours keep it very tidy on theirs. Birds find it a useful roosting place. and it provides them with food in the winter. It acts a good windbreak. I suspect my hedges were planted when part of the original Wigston Fields were enclosed. |
