Margaret's Garden Journal for June 2011

hammock

With the dense conifer cut down, the hammock is no longer in a green cave but still enjoys shade in the afternoon.

Last year's weedy delphiniums have out on weight this year and helped fill the gap I was expecting once the alliums were over. I thought they would be destroyed by slugs - but there has been far less slug damage this spring. We had some timely rain this June and the slugs have enjoyed that but most plants have grown so vigourously they were able to survive the attacks . Everything except the fuschias have been early. Roses have been magnificent everywhere this year from May on. The Hagley hybrid over the arch has a wealth of flowers and still more coming to carry on its season. Raspberries, strawbwerries and blackcurrants have all come together and the birds are carrying off the cherries.
