Margaret's Garden Journal for January 2012

A single out of season kerria blossom peeks between January's hallmark Garrya Elliptica.

Other out of season flowers include perrenial candytuft. Not sure whether the yellow primulas are in season or out, but they are still going strong. It must be two months now that they have added colour to the garden. Bulbs are showing through but I am not sure whether they are the dreaded Spanish bluebells or ones I planted in the autumn.

2. Check fuchias	2. They seem to be doing fine. Must cut them back

5. Support slender stemmed alliums with wire netting	5. They've grown so tall already I may have left it too late
6. Stake broad beans	6. Not sown. Will wait and sow Meteor or Bunyards
