Margaret's Garden Journal for January 2010

My last year's New Year's resolution to keep up a gardening blog didn't last long. This years resolution to cherish my overwintered plants was broken even ore quickly. I thought I would be safe banishing most plants from the conservatory to the greenhouse halfway through December so long as I covered the most tender with fleece. I intended to bring them back on January 7th but hard winter seems to be setting in earlier and earlier. We had snow and ice a week before Christmas and it snowed again for new year. At the end of the night of Jan 6th the temperature dropped to -10°. The garden paths were so slippery next morning I didn't go down to examine the damage but I reckon I will have lost all my Thalia and geraniums.
Pictures and backdrop later. For what the garden looks like now, click on Feb and you'll get last year's snow scene.
